NEW YORK BOSTON LIVERPOOL FEBRUARY 1848 ATLANTIC TRANSIT 23 days instead of 12 CUNARD DELAYED MAILS: although very reliable, Cunard was on rare occasions forced to a change in schedule. This letter was originally scheduled to leave with the "CALEDONIA" but the sailing schedule was changed to Saturdays so that the Caledonia left on 15 January before the mails from New York arrived. The Packet ship "NEW YORK" was contracted to carry the mails to Liverpool leaving Boston on 17 January and arriving at Liverpool 9 February -- a delay of some 11 days.
