ITALIAN COLONIES: GENERAL ISSUES

Commemorative stamps valid for use in all of the colonies began to be issued in 1932. Until then Italian commemorative stamps were overprinted with the name of the colony for which they were bound. This inflatory policy had temporary relief between 1932 and 1934 when stamps inscribed POSTE COLONIALI ITALIANE were issued for use in all colonies. The only exception was Italy's 1932 PRO DANTE set which was overprinted POSTE COLONIALI for use in the colonies. The experiment was short-lived, and the postal use of these issues was quite limited.
