The first stamps of Norfolk Island were issued on 10 June 1947. They depicted Ball Bay and were printed in Australia. Local landmarks adorned the pictorial set of six stamps issued on 10 June 1953. The first definitive series of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II was issued in 1960, with supplementary values added in 1961 and 1962. The monarch is depicted on the 9d, while the other stamps depict local flowers and birds. The introduction of local government in 1960 was highlighted by a special stamp.
