The first five stamps of Sweden were issued on 1 July 1855. King Oscar II first appeared on stamps in 1885; and a bicoloured definitive series was issued in 1891. 1903 saw the first Swedish commemorative stamp. Famous people depicted on Swedish stamps include many Nobel Prize laureates, Queen Christina, Selma Lagerlof, Oscar Montelius, Alfred Nobel and many more.
