GERUSALEMME JERUSALEM 1908-1914
On 1 June 1908 Italy opened its post office in Jerusalem. During the early period Italian Levant stamps denominated in PIASTRE were used. Seven definitive stamps of Italy were overprinted GERUSALEMME (plus face value) for use at this post office were issued in 1909; an additional value with the same overperprint was issued in 1911. This post office was closed on 29 September 1911 and reopened in December 1912 when it began to use Italian stamps. The Italian post office in Jerusalem ceased operation on 1 October 1914
