A.M.G.-F.T.T. stands for Allied Military Government Free Territory (of) Trieste which at the time included the city of Trieste and nearby coastal areas to the west. As a result of the 15 September 1947 Peace Treaty, the province of Udine and parts of the provinces of Gorizia and Trieste were restored to Italian sovereignty, the city of Trieste (known as Zone A) passed under Allied administration, and the remainder of Venezia Giulia to the east passed to a Yugoslav Military Government (Trieste Zone B). The A.M.G.-F.T.T. overprint, in various styles, was applied to most Italian definitive and commemorative stamps of the period. Zone A was incorporated in Italy on 15 November 1954 and the A.M.G.-F.T.T. overprints withdrawn.
