ITALY 1860-1900

The Early Definitives and the rapid growth of the postal network in Unified Italy is an endless source of new and interesting research for the collector who wants rewards without necessarily having to spend huge amounts of money. After the death of King Victor Emmanuel II his stamps continued to be used in combination with definitive stamps of King Umberto I. The opening of a large number of rural post offices, the introduction of new services such as express mail, money orders, and parcel post – to name a few – have contributed to a vast field of postal history that will keep the specialist very busy for many years to come.
