SEA MAIL
Mail carried by ships: this means of conveyance was more popular during the age of steamship. The importance of mail steamers increased exponentially in the Mediterranean during the 1840s and 1850s, and French, British and Austrian steamers prompted the Italian operators to offer a reliable, flexible and timely conveyance of mail and passengers. These were the years when the world was rapidly getting smaller and the Mediterranean even more so.
