Description

Two 2012 stamps celebrating the Astronomical Observatory of Brera in Milan for the 250th anniversary of its foundation, and the Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte in Naples, on the 200th anniversary of its foundation. The first stamp depicts a detail of the building of the Astronomical Observatory of Brera and the Dome Zagar, in the background vortex galaxy M51, taken from the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. The second stamp depicts the main facade of the monumental Capodimonte Observatory in the neoclassical style with the galaxy called ARP 273, photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope. Renato Dicati , astrophysicist and avid stamp collector has discovered that the galaxy pictured on the stamp on the € 0.60 ‘ Observatory of Brera in Milan is not the M51 but the NGC6946 . Fortunately, the stamp does not feature the wrong name of the galaxy, which was used only on the press releases of the Italian Post Office,
