Description

A se-tenant strip of five stamps of 60 cents each, with different subjects refering to the centuries-old tradition of Italian ceramic art, were issued in October 2012. The Post Office said the new stamps fall within the ongoing series dedicated to “made in Italy” products. The five stamps depict ceramics from Castelli (Teramo) on stamp shows a ceramic plate depicting Artemis, who embraces the sleeping Endymion, created at the beginning of the eighteenth century by the Baroque painter Carlo Antonio Grue and preserved in the Museum of Abruzzo; Caltagirone (Catania) stamp shows a detail of the Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte , built in 1606 and decorated in 1954 entirely with polychrome ceramic tiles, two artistic ceramic stoves are reminiscent of Castellamonte (Turin) which has centuries old tradition for this production; Squillace (Catanzaro) stamps depicts a ceramic plate featuring a bird, exhibited at the Diocesan Museum of Santa Severina. The fifth stamp does not refer to specific locations and shows a series of ceramic tiles arranged to form a square.
