Description

[EX 3872] — EXCEEDINGLY RARE ITEM FROM THE SIROTTI COLLECTION (THE BEST EVER FORMED ON BOFIC STAMPS & POSTAL HISTORY) * SASSONE VALUE 8,000 EUROS ON COVER ($11,000) From Dr. Migliavacca’s Certificate BRITISH OCCUPATION OF FORMER ITALIAN COLONIES: ERITREA, 23 September 1943 – Stampless cover from Bondeno, Ferrara, to an Italian family in Asmara. British octagonal censor mark, CROWN / PASSED / ZZ/5 struck on Asmara’s civilian incoming mail on the address side. In transit, on back, double circle and coat of arms MINISTERO AFRICA ITALIANA * POSTA PER ITALIANI A.O.I. (Ministry of Italian Africa * Mail for Italians in East Africa) struck in purplish red. The mail forwarded by this agency should have enjoyed exemption from postage. However, on arrival the cover was charged 5d with M.E.F. (Middle East Forces) postage due stamps: one 2d and one 3d (Sassone Segnatasse 3 and 4), both affixed on the back and postmarked by circle date stamp ASMARA—CENTRO—TASSATE 23. 9. 43. The regular postal use of these postage due stamps in Eritrea began on 24 July 1943 and had a short life-span. I have examined the above captioned cover which is photographically reproduced here. In my opinion, this rare cover is genuine in all respects and in very fine condition. I signed it “GM” in pencil, on the space adjacent to the postage due stamps on the back of the cover ————— SASSONE 2013 CATALOGUE VALUE ON COVER 9,000 EUROS *** PRICE ON REQUEST * NO PAYPAL OR CREDIT CARD PAYMENT FOR THIS ITEM (only Certified Bank Money Order in US Dollars drafted on a USA Bank will be accepted — this can be easily obtained from your bank) ************** [EX 3872]
