LANGUAGE BARRIER: non existant….pictures speak 1000 words…all you have to do is place your stamps side by side with the pictures…if you only get a stamp or two in the right shade or nuance the book has paid for itself and then some
The 4th Issue of the Kingdom of Sardinia (initially consisting of Piedmont, Genoese Riviera and Sardinia) has always attracted collectors because it was printed and reprinted over a span of 8 years – in fact these stamps witnessed the unification of Italy and with it the ever increasing stamp demand from the annexed regions and territories. The color shade of each denomination changed every time a new printing was required and some nuances are very scarce, some are priced into the thousands of Euros/Dollars. Color identification plates were printed in the 50s, reprinted in the 90s and then another publisher made a similar attempt. All were sold out and all are bibliographic rarities.
This new book stands out for a number of merits that match and surpass previous publications on the same subject for the following reasons:
The Author is a seasoned collector of these stamps
The book has been vetted by a number of experts
Other prominent collectors had their input
The color plates are state of the art and have been vetted at the production stage by an expert on light and visual perception of colors (the best way to use this book is at noon time in a room with windows solely facing north….the eyes must be rested and the identification sessions must be short because the eyes tire very quickly…a combination of day light and fluorescent bulbs can also be useful. Never utilize strong daylight and excessive artificial light…never go in spots where there is a strong reflection of sun beams, blue skies or afternoon skies because each will influence a distorted identification).
Guidelines can be translated using Babel or similar online translation programs.
The book is replete with color illustrations and technical notes accumulated by the Author over a lifetime.
IN CONCLUDING: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK YOU COULD EVER BUY ABOUT THESE FASCINATING STAMPS
The price is influenced by high production costs, however Italy is well know for real state of the art printing and every penny spent on this book is well spent.
INDISPENSABLE & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
